Jupiter Bowl gets BLASTED in the Park Record... read our response.

Check out the original Letter to the Editor here. While we recognize that this letter was a simple class assignment, We seem to still suffer from the original pricing over 16 months ago. How do we overcome this perception when there are so many great "value" opportunities at Jupiter Bowl?

Here is our letter we submitted in response to the Park Record:

I applaud the Park Record for including recent students’ letters to the editor (February 23-25, 2011) and am amazed at how fortunate we are as a community when the most pressing issues on young people’s minds are wildlife awareness, expensive bowling and too much homework.
I must take issue, however, with the Park Record’s decision, and question the motivation, to publish an editorial comment made on an experience that occurred well over a year ago, when there must have been many other more timely letters from the dozens submitted as a class project.
While Mr. Sanchez’s selected essay may have been well written, his math was a little off. The most he could have spent at the time of opening (on a Friday or Saturday night or Holiday) would have been $30 for 3 games (and shoes).
Much of our pricing has been refined over the 16 months of our operation and we have many daily specials that can be viewed on our website at www.jupiterbowl.com. From ‘$3 Tuesdays’ to ‘Student Specials’ to ‘Family Fun Day’, Jupiter Bowl offers many value opportunities. And yes, just like the movies and other entertainment options, we do charge a little more on Friday and Saturday evenings.
The owners of Jupiter Bowl went to great lengths both in time and money to create a unique, premium product for the Park City area. We strive to serve many constituencies including families, students, local and transient populations as well as the 20/30 something crowd looking for a local ‘nightclub’ atmosphere on the weekends.
Since according to Mr. Sanchez it is “still the same game” it is good that there are now two options to enjoy the sport of bowling within a reasonable distance in Summit/Wasatch counties.
If any of you are feeling as Mr. Sanchez so passionately did, we invite you to send us an email at customerservice@jupiterbowl.com and we will gladly extend you a free game of bowling. Please come and enjoy all that Jupiter Bowl has to offer and not rely on any outdated experience.

Respectfully submitted,
Susan Spivey Platt

Sundance at Jupiter Bowl

Let us sum up all the craziness of Sundance at Jupiter Bowl. Thursday (1/20) and Friday (1/21) we laid low with some private events. Saturday (1/22) was a busy day of bowling after people viewed shows at the Redstone Theatre, which was an official theatre venue this year. At night, Hewlett Packard, an official Sundance Sponsor came in for a private party with roughly 100 guests who had a blast bowling, drinking and playing pool after their screening at the Redstone theatre. On Sunday (1/23) Sundance hosted their Patron Leadership Circle Reception at Jupiter Bowl. The PLC is a group was a collection of Sundance’s top supporters. (For more information on how to be a part of the Patron Circle or to donate to the festival visit: http://www.sundance.org/support-us/join-patron-circle/ The group was diverse but all had a great time. Monday (1/26) was a big prep day for Jupiter Bowl as we got ready to host the Sundance Shorts Awards and Reception.

Tuesday (1/25) was one of the best parties of Sundance with over 400 people in attendace. Filmmakers, actors, and producers all came together to celebrate the many accomplishments of the great shorts program that Sundance featured this year. Jupiter Bowl closed at 3pm to remove furniture, the stage was set up on the middle four lanes of the main concourse and the video crew started setting up their equipment that would later allow us to stream live on our 70 foot video wall and every TV and projector, so there was not a bad seat in the house.
Rockin' the Cosmopolitain's Knee High Socks

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas was the event’s sponsor. They took over the Lift Grill and Bar turning it in to the Cosmopolitan Lounge where they served a specialty cocktail called the “Red House” which featured Stoli Orange and an orange slice. The Red House named after a YouTube video that can be found here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnOyMSEWNTs which is actually a commercial for a furniture store… who knew? The Red House cocktail seemed to be a popular choice of beverage but was not very sweet as the reddish/pink color suggested it might be. When speaking with the Cosmopolitan’s mixologist the “Red House” was compared to a gin and tonic, the reply being  that it was designed to be classic cocktail, so it was a an appropriate parallel.

The food included an Antipasto Platter
(pictured), a classic Margarita pizza, a mushroom pizza with fresh goat cheese and sliced mushrooms with ricotta and our meat lovers Fenway pizza with sausage, grilled onions and peppers. Other appetizers included Smoked Salmon on Rye toast with horseradish sour cream and apple slaw, Szechuan-style Duck in Radicchio Cups, Shrimp & Goat Cheese Nachos and Corn Bisque Shooters w/ Pancetta & Thyme Crème.  The menu was rounded off
with “Whoopi Pies” and Shake Shooters in Vanilla, Chocolate and Nutella/Vanilla swirl. Stella, Stoli and Barefoot wines were all served at our two bars, or by any of the servers’ lane side.
The Shorts Awards portion was very short in total at 15 minutes, where the U.S. Jury Prize in Short Filmmaking went to Brick Novax and the International Jury Prize in Short Filmmaking went to Deeper Than Yesterday (Australia). After the awards ceremony the DJ got back to work and people talked, bowled, drank and danced the night away. For more information and pictures of the Shorts Awards and Party see the Sundance blog post at http://www.sundance.org/festival/blog-entry/rolling-for-glory-at-the-shorts-awards/ .
Wednesday Night (1/26)- Afro Omega made Jupiter Bowl history as being the first live band to play on our stage () As usual Park City and Salt Lake City fans came out to support the local group. The group is a true testament to the talent that Utah is producing.
Thursday Night (1/27)- Jupiter Bowl hosted another local hip hop group Broken Silence who rocked the house with local DJ, DJ RYNO. The group brought out a slew of local Parkites who bowled and played pool before Broken Silence’s performance and then rocked out on the dance floor for the groups set. Video to come.
Friday Night (1/28)- Skins and Needles and collaboration between Dj Zeph, a California DJ and Max MacVeety, a talented drummer for the Crown City Rockers also out of the Bay Area, together played an incredible set that had the audience dancing all night. (Video to come!)
Saturday Night (1/29)- Was an all out party at Jupiter Bowl as we hosted the Official Sundance Awards After Party. J Boogie and Aima the Dreamer engaged the crowd all night long, with a special repeat appearance by Skins and Needles. Two very talented rappers hit the stage also a surprise performance for their group that was having a private birthday party in Club Jupiter. Needless to say, People danced in to the wee hours of the night. (Video to come!)
Sunday (1/30)- Ah! The last day of Sundance, it was back to business as usual with the stage taken down, children’s birthday parties during the day and après ski bowlers at night.

It was a good run Sundance! We look forward to you next year, but need the year to recover.
Until 2012.
